MMFA publishes its second Environmental Product Declaration for Vinyl-SPC floor covering
Brussels, 26 March 2025 – The Multilayer Modular Flooring Association (MMFA) has published its second Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), this time for Vinyl-Solid Polymer Core (SPC) floor coverings category. Verified by the German IBU Institute, the EPD will be valid for five years from 2025 to 2030, marking another milestone in the association's commitment to product transparency and sustainability.
This new EPD enables MMFA members to communicate the environmental performance data for Vinyl-SPC floor coverings with a thickness range between 4 and 5 millimetres, as well as the functional and technical characteristics. The data for the declaration was supplied by four member companies.
“We are proud to introduce our second EPD, a testament to MMFA’s ongoing efforts to provide reliable environmental data for our industry,” said Jan Dossche, MMFA President (COREtec® Floors). “This achievement reflects the collective dedication of our members and the technical expertise within MMFA. Expanding our EPD portfolio is a key step in ensuring our industry continues to evolve responsibly.”
“Following the success of our first EPD for Vinyl-HDF floor coverings, this second declaration for SPC products reinforces MMFA’s commitment to sustainability and transparency,” said Sebastian Wendel, Board Member and Convenor of MMFA’s Technical Committee. “Providing independently verified environmental data ensures that the sector and consumers have the necessary insights to evaluate SPC flooring’s impact over its lifecycle. This initiative supports our commitment to clarity and strengthens our dedication to the development of environmentally responsible products. I want to extend my gratitude to all the members who contributed to this initiative.”
EPDs are a fundamental part of the association’s efforts to make flooring more sustainable. They help with tracking the environmental impact of products and give manufacturers and consumers the information they need to make greener choices. With each new EPD, MMFA is giving the industry more concrete data to work with, keeping up with evolving standards and market expectations.
